Welcome!
Appalachian MCC is a growing community of faith who believe that all are welcome in the family of God. We belong to the denomination of Metropolitan Community Churches founded by Troy Perry on October 6 1968; before the Stonewall Riots. One of the things that prompted Troy to start MCC was the unfounded arrest of a friend for lewd conduct, 1960 speak for breathing while gay, and the devastating effect that it had on that friend.
Carlos said, "You know something? I've never been arrested before for anything in my life. Never! And I'm 26 years old now. The police kept telling me they are going to call my employer and tell him I'm gay. I'll probably lose my job. You know, Troy, I've learned one thing from this experience: People don't really care…
Troy’s response: "Well, Carlos, even if people don't, I'm still convinced that God cares about you."
The Bible tells us that God loved the world so much that we were given Christ the one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. At AMCC we live by this. We embrace and welcome all people without reservation--lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, straight, or divorced …whoever you are; no matter what anyone else has told you.
If you are lost, needing a family, or would just like to be a part of a congregation that embraces all, you are welcome and wanted at AMCC. Come and be a part of truly transformational worship.
